Within one city there can be hundreds of bus stops spread across the area, some with bus shelters others with just a sign to designate the pick-up and drop off location. Many of these stops are in unlit areas, leaving bus riders sitting or standing in the dark. Lighting at bus stops and in bus shelters can provide peace of mind and safety to those waiting for the bus to arrive. It can also deter loitering and other unfavorable activities that can take place in unlit areas. But it can be very expensive trenching electric cables to these locations; in some areas it may be virtually impossible. In addition to the cost of getting electric to each bus stop, take in to consideration the monthly meter fees and associated taxes at every bus stop location. The costs are mind boggling.
The good news is that we have a solution! Solar lighting is the perfect option for illuminating bus shelters and bus stops. Solar Illuminations has been supplying solar lighting solutions for the public transport industry since 2002. Our lights are self-contained, commercial grade systems that do not require any trenching, or incur any monthly electric usage costs, meter fees or taxes. In addition to providing safety to waiting passengers, our lighting systems can be used to illuminate signs, time tables, and advertisements in the shelter.
Bus stops without a shelter can benefit from a solar light pole installed on site. We offer options that include motion sensors, dimming options, or have the ability to stay lit at full power from dusk to dawn. Equipment can be supplied to mount to existing poles, or we can supply the equipment with 10’, 15’ or 20’ poles.
Our solar powered systems are customized to the requirements of your application. They include all the necessary equipment for most installations. We supply the appropriate sized solar panel and batteries to accommodate the winter weather conditions in your location. We supply at least 3 nights of autonomy to allow for weather conditions that are worse than the average winter conditions in your area.
Illumination time for our products can vary depending on the product selected. Our shelter light systems and most street lights can be programmed to illuminate from dusk to dawn, or any other required period. If illumination is not desired during times buses are not running, we can implement clock timers that will turn the lights on and off as required. Dimming can be enabled throughout the night or after a certain amount of time. These options allow us to accommodate most budgets.

If you are in need of lighting for bus stops and/or bus shelters, we’d love to help! Give us a call or send us an email so that we can talk about the options we have available.
